BEING RIGHT GETS YOU FIRED
Recently there have been stories in the news of some employees being fired for doing a good thing. A grocery clerk was dismissed after apprehending a thief and a bank teller was fired for foiling a holdup and capturing the culprit. The grocery chain and the bank both claim they have policies against such action. They claim their main concern is to protect customers and the public by doing whatever the robber commands. Well poo to that crap. No wonder it is so easy to rob businesses with an attitude that says the robber does what they want.
Here are two individuals that foiled robbery attempts and did what is right and lost their jobs as a result. Now in fairness the businesses have a point and can maintain their policies with little adjustments. It should be their policy that employees make every effort to restrain from encountering the robber in a negative manner. We don’t want you to do it but if you do we won’t fire you for doing so. After all we are, supposedly, taught all our lives to do the right thing. To stand up for what is right. Right is might, right? So when we do the right thing why should be be smacked down for it?
Hopefully the two culprits involved may open their eyes and minds to realize they have been stopped. Hopefully others will think twice and decide to not take the same steps to commit robbery. There is a better way to deal with heroics than dismissing those engaging in them.
