PORNOGRAPHY?
I am puzzled by what we deem to be pornography and thus pornographic. Some dictionary definitions indicate it is void of artistic value and appears in the form of words or pictures, drawings, etc. I am more puzzled as to why it is generally limited to sexual activity. I am even more puzzled as to why we go to such great lengths to protect our children from it on the web yet do nothing about items equally or even more graphic and, in my opinion, pornographic.
I am in no way saying I am in favor of porn for children, about children or it being available to children. What I am saying is the vast majority of computer games available to children are equally pornographic and should be so classified. Why do we say our children are not emotionally and mentally ready to view humans having sex yet are allowed to view shootings, stabbings, mutilations, video games filled with graphic violence and voice overs about destruction, killings, etc.
I have a friend who’s grandson recently turned eight. I gifted him with a baseball glove, bat and dozen baseballs. An uncle presented him with Wii and all the games he can handle. He of course spends hours and hours dominating the large screen television playing these games. His favorites include those with graphic violence, murder, shootings, stabbings, beheading, blood squirting, screaming, etc.
Why are the toy makers permitted to make this crap? These things are more pornographic than pornography itself. Of course the manufacturers of this crap claim they do all they can to control who these things are purchased by. So the responsibility falls upon we the adults. I feel strongly these things ought to be illegal for children, under 18, to view. Parents could and should be held liable just as they would be for allowing a child to view porn. Am I old and out of touch? No, I am simply old and realistic and very much in touch. These toys and video games promote and teach our children violence and aggression. Then we wonder what went wrong when they put what they see into action. Just look at what is being shown on our televisions in cartoon form. Look at what is being released in theaters in animated form and computer generated. More and more violence. Then we are bewildered when fourth graders carry a gun to school.
Perhaps the old adage, “The more things change, the more they remain the same”, is so true. These items are instant baby sitters and we justify them by saying: “Well at least I know where my kids are when they are playing them or watching television.” We all were shocked recently by the story of a gang rape and beating of a young girl at a high school prom. Reportedly as many as twenty boys took their turn with her. The news media, talk shows, etc. all jumped on the bandwagon with this one and their panel of experts and especially psychologists looking at the issue of why no one called 911. The group mentality is being closely looked at also. Have any of these so called experts stopped to ask if any of these kids are into violent videos and video games. How many games promote this type of behavior. Our Hip Hop Rap Crap so called music today is filled with promoting this type of behavior. We idolize the idiots that release this garbage. Our kids drive around with booming base that will guarantee them total deafness by the age of twenty eight. The violent videos, games and noise known as music rakes in billions annually and we permit it.
I am certain my simple pleading will fall upon deaf ears and viewed only by the blind of mind.

I see what you’re saying, but ultimately you can’t blame the music/video games/rap artists/pornography… They’re just making a product, if it didn’t sell they wouldn’t bother.
